There’s many discussions about the ‘best selling record’ or ‘fastest selling album’ online but did you know that there’s a very elite club of artists who have best selling records, tapes, cd’s and so on, that at present has just 14 members?

Welcome to the 15 Million Copies Sold club.

Selling a mere 15 million physical copies isn’t an easy feat, especially in today’s streaming environment (but that’s a different post for another day).

The average U.K. number 1 single (according to Official U.K. charts) in the last few years needs to have sold around 100’000 physical copies. Be it CD, Tape or record. Just to get in to the top 40, an artist or band would expect to sell 8000.

How Many Sales Today?

So, in today’s standards, to get in to the 15 million physical release sold club, a modern day artist would need to be at number 1 for around a 150 weeks, or just shy of 3 years…and you thought Wet Wet Wet were at number 1 for too long!

So who are these elite members? Take a guess and then scroll down
